Information systems auditors might not have to possess high levels of technical skills to perform their function effectively.

They might need to be accomplished users of computer assisted audit techniques, but hey might not have to possess the sills needed to develop these techniques themselves.

Provided they have a moderate understanding of the technology and a good understanding of and experience with auditing, the application domain and “soft” skills like oral communications, they might be in a strong position to perform a competent audit.

In other roles, however, information systems auditors might require high levels of technical skills.

They might have to act as consultants to audit teams that are operating in complex database and data communications environment.

The training programs they attend, therefore, might focus more on providing knowledge and experience with technology and less on interpersonal skills.
