3 UFCEKT-20-33D Modelling and Animation What is MotionBuilder?  MotionBuilder is a primarily character animation studio  Originally produced by Kaydara - acquired by Autodesk in 2006  Supports storyboarding and tools for creating animatics  Not much support for modelling and rendering  Lots of support for external connectivity  Microphones for real-time lip synching,  Wearable VR - glove etc  Wacom graphics tablets  MIDI devices

4 UFCEKT-20-33D Modelling and Animation Animation Pipeline  Create or acquire rigged (skeleton and mesh) character model in Maya or 3DS MAX etc.  Export the model as a.fbx file (plug-in required)  Import the.fbx character mesh into MotionBuilder  Characterize the character model  Create control rig IK system (drag and drop)  Apply stock animation keyframe clips and  Export character from MotionBuilder together with the animation  Import back into modelling environment and continue building scenario and further animation, or create and render animation scenario in MotionBuilder
