Academic Integrity Writing as Process Karen Williams Writing Center Assistant Director

Writing as process The writing process begins when we start to think about writing a paper. The actual writing is a later step. The writing process involves thinking, questioning, researching, note-taking, documenting, organizing, writing, and revising.

Academic Integrity and Process Last-minute research and writing or lack of confidence in the course material can compromise academic integrity, either intentionally or unintentionally. Both of the above problems ignore the process of writing.

Time crunch Last-minute writing often includes poor note-taking and documentation. Be sure to document notes and ideas as you read. Make it clear in your notes if you are writing ideas verbatim or paraphrasing; both must be documented in a paper.

Course material Writing is a synthesis of ideas that writers encounter. Leave time to process the information you encounter. Brainstorm. Talk with others about course ideas.

Writing Center The Writing Center can help with any aspect of the writing process. Bring thesis, questions you might use to form a thesis, guidelines for a paper to start conversation about your paper. Bring draft or outline of paper.
