Following studies in 2001 and 2006, the 2009 health assessment included telephone interviews of 1,211 McLennan County residents providing information for: –General health status –Healthcare access (eg. health insurance) –Health awareness of several health conditions –Behaviors that affect health –Emergency preparedness Community Health Assessment

The assessment was contracted with the University of North Texas Survey Research Center and funded by the Public Health Preparedness grant, Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and Providence Healthcare Network. Questions were modeled after the CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and other questionnaire sources with interviews conducted during August and September 2009. The report presents overall county findings with a 95% confidence rating. Comparison data across years or for Texas or the United States are indicated on certain graphs. Community Health Assessment

Conclusion With appropriate interventions of good nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, annual wellness checks and facilitated access to care, McLennan County residents will realize immediate benefits from improved health outcomes. The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District continues to provide vital preventive services that are proactive, cost effective and address many of our community’s health challenges.
