Examples of sheet metal fasteners Threaded Rivet Nuts Metal, tubular rivets with internal threads. Provide strong threads in thin sheet metal materials. “Blind” fasteners that can be installed quickly and easily from one side of the grip or work piece. Can be installed after the finishing process without marring or marking the surface.

A Large Piece of the Puzzle. The idea that revolutionized production fastening. K.A. Swanstrom founded Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp. in 1942 with an easy-to-install, self-clinching fastener that provides load-carrying threads in metal sheets too thin to be tapped. PEM Installation INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS Sheet hardness must be 90 or less on the Rockwell “B” scale. Hole punch should be kept sharp to minimize work hardening around hole. Nuts should be installed in punch side of hole. Nuts should not be installed near bends or other highly cold worked areas where sheet hardness may be greater than 90 on the Rockwell “B” scale.
