2 Hofstra Archives Are you interested in the History of Hofstra University? Or events that might have taken place on the campus? Are you doing research? Did you know that the Hofstra University Archives has photographs, audiotapes, and video to support your research?

3 How do you use the Archives? The Archives are located at the West Campus Building, 619 Fulton Ave. We will help you use our resources to find the information that you need. Please call in advance, (516) 463-6407.

4 To serve you better: We like to answer your questions and we will do everything that we can to help you find the resources that will do just that! Do you have a date or time frame for your research project? Do you know the name of a person, place, or event, and need more information? Do you have a topic or subject that you’d like to know more about? Tell us! We’re here to help.

5 Things you might want to know about us: Our hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. We encourage you to make an appointment, call 463-6407. You must use pencil and paper in our reading room (no pens or markers, please.) A photocopier, cassette player, and video player are available for your use. We like to talk to groups of students about our collections and have a room available for that purpose, please call ahead so that we can reserve this space.

6 Okay, you have to do a research paper, but you don’t have a topic. Think, Archives!! There are plenty of exciting topics to research, historical events that have occurred, and notable people to discover throughout the University’s history.You can find them at the Archives. Need a little direction? We can suggest a topic, or find a subject that hasn’t been fully examined before!

7 What kinds of materials are available? The Archives contains collections of documents (read individual pieces of paper) about a particular theme, from a particular department, or from an individual. We have over 3,000 audiotapes of events, lectures, conferences, meetings, or other activities. We also have videotapes of similar activities. And we have photographs, about 250,000 separate images! We also have memorabilia, scrapbooks, and print materials from every era of Hofstra history.

9 Are you producing a publication, newsletter, or print article? Is there something missing? Would a photo do the trick? The Archives has photographs that can be digitally scanned and used for in-house publications. Various copyright rules apply, but ask, if we can, we will!

10 Can I use Archival material in my class? Did you know that you can borrow a copy of an audio or video for use in your classroom? We do require advance notice and must have a use copy available, but call, and we’ll work on it! Or you can bring your class to the Archives for a lecture on using primary source materials or to view archival materials. call the Archivist at: (516) 463- 6407 for an appointment or more information.

Our hours are Mon. - Fri. 9:00- 5:00, with some exceptions. Please call for an appointment or for more information. None of our materials circulates, you must use the Archives Reading Room. We encourage you to talk with us about your research needs or projects.
