Population growth example and Table 1.23 Table 1.23 contains approximate population data for the McAllen, Texas metropolitan area. To see how the population of McAllen is growing, we look at the yearly increases in population in the third column of Table 1.23. If the population had been growing linearly, all the numbers in the third column would be the same. But the populations usually grow faster as they get bigger, so it is not surprising that the numbers in the third column increase.
