18 Preliminary Concept An online Atlas of Sustainable Development for Southwest Nova Scotia Why Southwest Nova Scotia? Because the five counties: Queens, Shelburne, Yarmouth, Digby and Annapolis represent Canada’s thirteenth UNESCO/MAB Biosphere Reserve Why Sustainable Development? Because under the biosphere reserve designation, there are three values: - conservation of biodiversity - sustainable development - logistic support
