A social network is a structure which consists of individuals or organizations that are linked together based on a commonality. For instance: financial exchange, career connections, ideas, friendship, similar interests, or conflicts. Social networking implies being actively involved within these structures in order to connect to people outside one’s everyday life. 4/30/2009 2 Social Networking 2.0

For instance, such websites as www.facebook.com or www.myspace.com are designed for people (usually young people) to keep in contact with friends, invite people to upcoming events, or to talk to each other via the internet.www.facebook.com www.myspace.com

Professional social networking Social networking is also used as way to find jobs or create professional contacts to better one’s career. Finding others with like interests/prerogatives 4/30/2009 Social Networking 2.0 6 Some use social networks as a way to communicate and/or share their areas of interest or opinions. This is most commonly done through a website known as a BLOG. Here, people can most messages to one another concerning a specific topic.

Blogs concerning all different topics and debates exist. At the same time, it is possible via the internet for anyone to create their own personal blog for free. Many often do this while traveling as a way to share their experiences. 4/30/2009 Social Networking 2.0 7
