Cost Until end 2000:negligible 2001:3 kDM per irrad  Problem –Cyclotron split in commercial and research part. Irradiation facility still a commercial part  expensive. Future:From Oct.2001 beam line for irradiation in research division: 0.5 kDM per Irradiation –Negotiation ongoing; but needs clarifying of procedure (same procedure without changes) This is the main reason why we need full sensors NOW

Some facts Beam time is not an issue It looks like Rpoly can stand ~500V  Biasing by bonding is possible (add.manual bonder is always available)

More facts related to irrad Bulk damage are in principal not bias dependent, dependent of C, O and N content Full bias at p irrad does not match the LHC conditions: e.g. Very high currents (would maybe blow up the sensor (100mA)) Full bias does not shape the field in the oxide in the right way (surface damage)!

Simulated LHC conditions with respect to surface damage! Vbias

Procedure 4 sensors stacked plus 20 teststructures in one go (~15min) T= -10°C at beam Humidity: Flow of dry nitrogen For the next irradiation to finalize parameters: –Several different Vbias are planned –On full sensors 1V at backplane to build up field in oxide, with all AC pads to GND (approx. LHC condition) –On teststructures: Vbias= 0, 1, 10, 100V (AC shorted) –One teststructure with Vbias =100V and no shortening of AC. –One teststructure without bias and further X-rays up to 50kGy (nice to know: we have 160 Hamamatsu teststructures)

Schedule Pre-measurement of teststructures from ST and Hamamatsu (until June 6) Marcello try to get grade X from Hamamatsu (otherwise 1 of 400  m sensors) Take the worst ST full sensor (with respect to pinholes) Irradiation the week June 6

Cost during production 1% of sensors ~270  ~70 Irrad 5% TS  70 Irrad (incl. TS) 35kDM
