Prerequisites To use RPC over HTTP, you must be running Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP (any version, including Tablet and Media Center editions) or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. In order to run the configuration script, you must also be connected to the corporate network (directly, or over remote access). Remote Procedure Call (RPC) over HTTP lets you enjoy the full Microsoft ® Office Outlook ® 2003 experience at home or when traveling with a laptop. If you can surf the Internet, you can use RPC over HTTP to get your Outlook e-mail without remote access or Microsoft Outlook Web Access. In this guide you will learn how to: Open Microsoft Outlook. In your Web browser, go to insert your URL and install the RPC over HTTP client. Click insert your URL to run the automatic configuration script. On the Exchange Server Settings page, click More Settings. On the Connection tab, select Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP under Exchange over the Internet. Click Exchange Proxy Settings. Under Connection settings, enter the appropriate server URL in Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange. To determine the URL for your region, visit insert your URL or consult the table on the last page of this guide. 5 Open Outlook. On the Tools menu, click E-Mail Accounts. The E-Mail Accounts Wizard opens. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next. If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), you must install the update from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8670cff 6-3d95-496e-8df4-13d8f38715fa. Update Your Outlook Profile When installing RPC over HTTP manually, you must follow these directions to update your Outlook profile: Open Outlook. On the Tools menu, select E-Mail Accounts. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next. 1 10 Select the Connect using SSL only and Mutually authenticate in the session when connecting with SSL check box. Re-enter the URL in Principal name for proxy server, replacing https:// with insert your URL:. Select the On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP check box. Select Basic Authentication under Proxy authentication settings. Click OK and restart Outlook. 11 12 13 9 2 Select your Microsoft Exchange Server account and click Change. 3 On the Exchange Server Settings page, in the User Name box, type your name as it appears in the Microsoft Address Book. 4 5 Click Check Name. If RPC over HTTP has been configured correctly, you will be prompted for your credentials. Your Microsoft Exchange Server and User Name will resolve automatically.
