All main (or sole) supervisors of research masters and doctoral students at Monash University must be accredited otherwise they can only be an associate supervisor Student dissatisfaction, complaints or grievances commonly relate to the quality of supervision

7. www.mrgs.monash.edu Two Research Supervision Training Models The apprenticeship model: trainee supervisors undertake the role of associate supervisor for the duration (admission to award of degree) of a doctoral candidature The MRGS training model: trainee supervisors undertake a series of workshop modules and master class seminars

8. www.mrgs.monash.edu The MRGS Training Model One day workshop (or two half days) allows completion of most of nine modules required for level 1 accreditation (next session - Thurs 28 April ) and Additional experiences including a doctoral examination advisory panel Completion of 5 master class seminars for level 2 accreditation

9. www.mrgs.monash.edu How many students can I supervise ? Unaccredited; associate only (max 25%) 1 EFTSL or 3 students Level 1; associate / main (up to 100%) 4 EFTSL or 6 students Level 2; associate / main (up to 100%) 8 EFTSL or 12 students

Experienced supervisors can request exemption from level 1 and/or level 2 training If exemption is granted we still ask for two “Monash” modules to be completed - #1 Policy (on-line) and #8 Examinations The exemption form is available on the MRGS website
