2 The beginning… Take your pick on its spelling, but there is an agreement that e-learning is the wave of the future for education and workplace training. That does not mean that everyone has the same vision of the future of learning through interfacing with electronic devices. There are three major groups expending large amounts of capital trying to create the future in the image of their vision. Each group has its own approach based on their needs and goals.

3 Industry has invested heavily in eLearning Industry has invested heavily in eLearning recognizing that continuous training is needed to:  New employee orientation,  Training employees for new tasks  Develop and maintain a skilled and effective work force.  Training people for similar responsibilities in distant location and perhaps in different languages  Introducing new programs and procedures to all the employees of the corporation.  And many others…….

4 Not only industry, but Education at large..  The National Educational Technology Plan of the U. S. Department of Education, “e-Learning – Putting a World-Class Education at the Fingertips of All Children”, ‘outlines five new national educational technology goals. It proposes national, state, local, and private sector actions to ensure that all of our nation’s teachers and students have the opportunity to take advantage of the power of new and emerging technologies for widespread improvements in teaching and learning – today, tomorrow, and into the future.’

5 Goals for the Dept of Ed  All students and teachers will have access to information technology in their classrooms, schools, communities, and homes.  All teachers will use technology effectively to help students achieve high academic standards.  All students will have technology and information literacy skills.  Research and evaluation will improve the next generation of technology applications for teaching and learning.  Digital content and networked applications will transform teaching and learning.
