Mathematics New Student Orientation January 11, 2011 Eric Ebersole MRHS ITL Go down deep enough into anything and you will find mathematics

graphing calculator TI – 84 or other models

Graduation Requirements 3 Mathematics Credits which must include Algebra 1/DA & Geometry Passing Algebra/DA HSA* MOST COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES REQUIRE 4 YEARS OF MATH

MOST COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES REQUIRE 4 YEARS OF MATH P Plan to take 4 years of math if the intention is to go to a 4-year or 2-year college... Include Algebra 2 and it is highly recommended to take some course related to Pre-Calculus. Students who fall short generally place into non-credit bearing courses as freshmen

These are general guidelines in determining optimal course placement for 9th grade students COURSEGUIDELINES Algebra 1/DA withC or D in Grade 8 Prealgebra Algebra SeminarDifficulties are NOT due to behavior or attendance `Proficient on Grade 8 MSA Algebra 1/DAA, B, or C in Grade 8 Prealgebra D, E in Algebra I/ Expectation of Basic Score on HSA Proficient or Advanced on Grade 8 MSA GeometryC or Low B in Alg 1/ Expectation of Proficient Score on HSA E in Geometry GT Performs well at a regular pace / Satisfactory computational skills Geometry GTA, B in Alg 1 / Expectation of Advanced Score on HSA D in Geometry GT Competent in Algebra skills/ Thrives on being challenged Algebra 2 GTA, B, C in Geometry GT Competent in Algebra Skills * /Thrives on being challenged Precalculus GTNormal placement from Alg 2 GT Thrives on being challenged /Able to function among older students *It may be necessary to review the Alg I grade as well as using the Geometry GT grade. A unique placement may need to be made for students who still are very weak in Algebraic skill.
