Detector Systems Update MICO April 7, 2008

MICE Detector Systems CKOV u Installed, first signals seen TOF0/1 u 8 new H6533MOD assembly PMTs have been delivered by Hamamatsu on 28th March. s One probably has a broken active divider (shown after one hour of tests). s The remaining 7 PMTs are under test to study behaviour under stress. s Apparently 4 are fine and the remaining 3 show minor problems. u Construction of new insulating PMTs holders is under way in INFN MIB mechanics shop (this will help for the discharge problems) to replace anti- corrodal ones in TOF0. u The PMTs testbench has been updated to pre-test and condition 6 barrettes at a time (under HV) and test other 6 barrettes with cosmics. u No news up to now from Hamamatsu about broken PMTs (8) and cause of discharges. Tracker u Work continues on AFEII firmware Calorimeter u Currently collecting cosmic ray data to test all readout channels in various operating conditions with the goal to equalise their response to MIPs.

Beam Monitors u Beam Monitors have been installed and are working. First beam seen on March 31. A number of issues remain and will have to be worked out s New top support for Large Beam Monitor s Some electronics issues – cause unknown at the moment s The two MAPMTs on the Large BM showed breakdown behavior when powered at RAL. This was not observed at Fermilab. We have contacted Burle and asked for replacements.
