The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program allows eligible high school students to take college courses while still enrolled in high school. HISTORY Began in Minnesota in 1985 to provide classes that were otherwise unavailable at the high schools. Approved by the Ohio senate in 1989. 20 states have similar programs. ROLE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL Determines number of academic units students take. Knows which college courses fulfill graduation requirements. Decides whether college GPA is figured into high school GPA. Makes sure students don’t take too many Carnegie units.
