3 It originated in 5th century Rome as a tribute to St. Valentine, a Catholic bishop. Once there was a emperor named Claudius. He was a tyrant. He banned marriage from his empire. But Valentine would secretly marry young men that came to him. When Claudius found it out, he first tried to convert him to paganism.

4 But Valentine reversed the strategy,trying instead to convert Claudius. When he failed, he was stoned and beheaded. During the days that he was imprisoned, he fell in love with a blind girl. His love for her and his great faith, managed to miraculously heal her from her blindness before his death. On February 14 th in AD 270, Valentine died and people celebrate this holiday in memory of Valentine.

5 In North American  In America : Men will give some presents, such as chocolates roses and so on. Some will enjoy a romantic dinner with his/her lover.  In Mexico : On Valentine’s Day, People will show both love and friendship. They give presents to those who have helped them. In Europe  In France : This day is for lovers. Men will do something for woman and women do not need to do a lot.

6  In England: Men will give presents to women. At the same time, some people will give presents to people they meet that day.  In Italy: People show their love, but they do not often give gifts. What’s more, women who are single are special. That day they will get up early and wait beside the window until the first man appear. They think that the man will be her husband in one year.

7 In Asia  In Philippine: Men will give some presents, such as chocolates, roses and so on. Some will enjoy a romantic dinner with his/her lover.  In Korea: Women will give chocolates to men. The more chocolates he receives, the more popular he is.  In Japan: Women give gifts to all the men they know.  In China: Women will get roses from their boyfriends and in return they will give chocolates.

8 People celebrate this holiday not only with their lovers but also their family and friends First with lovers sweet kiss or gifts especially chocolatessweet kiss or gifts chocolates Second with friends give your big smiles or funny presents to them and show your thanksbig smiles or funny presents Third with family cook delicious food for themdelicious food
