2. © 2011 IBM Corporation Information Management 2 Project Objectives Tivoli Storage Manager(TSM) is an IBM product that provides backup and archive data capabilities http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Tivoli_Storage_Manager  Objective: Demonstrate feasibility of using smartphone to perform basic Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) / VMware management operations How do we manage our backup/archive storage operations on the go, remotely?  Proposed use case for smartphone application –Monitor TSM backup of VMware environment and provide indication of failed VMs –Provide simple method to initiate backup of failed VM (i.e. re-attempt backup is first / standard response to problem)  Goals –Present TSM monitoring information in usable and viewable format –Demonstrate interactions with the following TSM interfaces: TSM admin interface (monitoring information) TSM B/A client (backup action)  Discussion Points –Use of native mobile app vs. web based approach –iPhone vs. Droid vs. Blackberry
