Recommendation of the current math teacher is important The goal is to have every 8 th grader ready for algebra or beyond. Sequencing may vary. Most 6 th grade students are in Math 6, Math 7, or Investigations of Mathematics (IM)

English 6 Focuses on reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing. Students have formal and informal writing assignments such as journal entries, compositions, short stories, and research reports. Introduction to Shakespeare

Advanced English 6 For those students with a minimum MAP-R RIT of 219 who… are highly motivated can work independently can comprehend challenging texts, express ideas clearly and with precision able to analyze, persuade, and do research.

READING 6 Focus on building, refining, and extending reading strategies. Comprehension is key, along with reading beyond the literal level. Students will read mythology, newspaper articles, and biographical essays.

Advanced READING 6 Emphasis is on drawing conclusions, making inferences, and supporting evaluations Readings include challenging text such as The Children’s Homer, and excerpts from Junior Great Books

Reading Interventions by recommendation only Basic Reading for those reading significantly below grade level Developmental Reading for those reading more than two years below grade level Read 180 for those reading one or more years below grade level

ADVANCED WORLD STUDIES 6 Students study the geography, economics, political systems, and culture of ancient world history from the earliest human settlements to great civilizations of the year 1000 CE.

INVESTIGATIONS IN SCIENCE 6 Students study the ecosystems, diversity and adaptation of organisms, forces and motion, energy, and light and sound. Students engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
