http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Release Information Release Dates –Tuesday June 6 th (Macintosh) –Tuesday June 20 th (Windows) Fall 2006 Test Installers (tentative) http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06-test.html http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06-test.html Operating System Requirements –Macintosh OS X 10.2 or higher –Windows XP

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Infrastructure/Kerberos Changes Windows –Sidecar will be upgraded from 5.0.7.3 to 5.0.7.4 to fix a problem with it crashing under VPN connections. Macintosh –CASD (system level routine that talks to the user level sidecar) will be upgraded from 2.6 to 2.7 to fix a prompt problem.

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Services Changes - Windows –Thunderbird 1.5.x will replace Eudora In an effort to be responsive to the requests from users, we are replacing the Eudora mail client with Thunderbird. Version 1.5 of Thunderbird supports both SSL and Kerberos access to the post offices and offers the ability to search our LDAP directory using either a person's NetID or their Name. Thunderbird should be able to migrate your existing settings, mailboxes and nicknames, but filters do not get migrated. In addition to configuring LDAP, we will turn off the auto updating feature of Thunderbird. We will be meeting with members of the ITMC to discuss transitioning –WS_FTP will be replaced by Filezilla. WS_FTP has not been supported by the vendor in several years and lacks support for newer connections types such as SSL and sFTP. Filezilla does not support file transfers with CornellC or CRNLMVS therefore, we will move WS_FTP to the Admin package.

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Services Changes (Windows) –HostExplorer Version 2006 (Telnet Client) We plan to upgrade to the latest release of Hummingbird HostExplorer 2006 (we are 6 releases back level) which has the ability to provide additional connection options, but it does not support the host initiated Uploads and Downloads used by some users of CornellC. Since HostExplorer 2006 and HostExplorer 6 can not co-exist we plan to move the existing CornellC entry (under Campus Host) to the Admin channel (under Campus Hosts) of uPortal.Cornell. The Campus Host folder in the main Bear Access channel will NOT contain a HostExplorer entry for CornellC. This change is also associated with the upcoming release of VISTA and BASIL. –Symantec AntiVirus Version 10.1.x –Thunderbird News Reader 1.5.x

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Services Changes (Macintosh) –Thunderbird 1.5.x will replace Eudora –PowerPC: Norton AntiVirus will be upgraded to version 10.x on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.3 (Panther) and remain at version 9.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) MacIntel: Norton AntiVirus 10.0 installer runs and Symantec fails, but after Live Update runs, Symantec gets updated to10.1 and then it works. (Until an installer is released that works properly)

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/bearaccess/testing/fall06.htm l Services Changes (Macintosh) (cont) –Fetch will be upgraded to 5.0.5. (or 5.1 if available) –Thunderbird news reader 1.5.x.
