Reduced design effort by individual institutes Common Open Embedded Software templates, libraries Spares and maintence during the detector lifetime (15 years) Low power consumption cables, local power supplies Commercial low cost in ATLAS several thousands will be needed Common effort People from many subdetectors involved in HW and SW.

(Only fixation holes 1.6mm instead of 2.4mm) 20 pc is in production (15 Oct 2000) Printed circuit board of the Motherboard is ready 20 prototypes will be available end of Oct 2000 Radiation tests are planned for February 2001 A first series of the ELMB will be produced to the Summer of 2001. Some components are on allocation!
