Early Life Born on May 16, 1718 and died January 1799. The oldest of 21 siblings, and tutored them growing up. Able to speak French by the age of 5 and by 15 she could speak Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, and German fluently.

Witch of Agnesi She was known for The Witch of Agnesi, which graphs the Cartesian Equation. It got its name from the Italian word “aversier” which means “to turn” y(x2+a2)=a3 or x=at, y=a/(1+t2). A planar cubic curve that is symmetric at the y-axis and approaches the x-axis as an asymptote..

Other Information In 1749, she was appointed Chair of Higher Mathematics by Pope Benedick XIV at the Chair of Higher Mathematics at the University of Bologna. She served for two years After the death of her father, she gave up on mathematics, and focused on caring for ill women. She was also a philosopher

Other Information Continued She was credited for writing the first book that discussed both differential and integral calculus At the age of nine she wrote a debate in Latin arguing about higher education for women She wrote a book called Instituzioni Analitiche ad uso della gioventu italiana (Foundations of analysis for the Use of Italian Youth) which was published in 1748
