3 Who is this for? This project is intended for 7 th and 8 th grade students.

4 Subject Areas This project integrates social studies into the language arts classrooms. This project utilizes technology in a number of ways.

5 Objectives Students will look at several photographs and respond to them. Students will use what they know about internment camps from a variety of sources to write at least one haiku and two other poems of their choice. They will also write one group poem. Students will compose a letter to the editor to clearly state an opinion, demonstrate knowledge of a topic, and persuade readers.

6 Activity Products Photograph response journal At least three poems, including one haiku Letter to the editor
