Division of Athletics wins 2007 Environmental Leadership Award Burton Family Football Complex Mark R. Shenkman Training Center
2
Recently completed in the summer of 2006, the Burton-Shenkman training center is the NCAA’s first LEED-certified green building. In attaining a LEED SILVER rating, designers incorporated innovative, environmentally friendly features such as recycled materials, energy efficient fixtures and site-sensitive design. The construction process emphasized minimal waste and raw materials. Long-term enery savings will amount to 35%. This showcase of environmental leadership would not have happened without the support and encouragement of the Division of Athletics and the facility design team, including Jeff Hathaway, George Kraus, Vaughn Williams and many others. Jeffrey Hathaway, Director of Athletics, accepts the ELA Award for the Burton/Shenkman facility
