What is IPTV? IPTV does not mean that a person will log on to a webpage to watch their favorite TV shows over “IP” stands for Internet protocol -method that will be used to send information over a secure network - the terminals can be computers or TV sets Extra bandwidth will allow consumer to do several things at the same time -email access, TV based caller id, etc.

How to receive IPTV Service providers will create a fiber networks Then place a box, called “residential gateway” This will connect the computers, telephones and TVs with high speeds

Cost of IPTV Consumer -$250-300 for installation, plus the cost of set top box Providers - cost of developing the fiber optic network - SBC planning to spend $6 Billion over next three years

Advantages vs. Disadvantages Consumer - interactive TV experience - problems when trying to surf channels (single stream) Service provider - utilize expensive bandwidth -government regulations Advertisers -more personalized ads -fast forward capabilities

Current State of the Market United States -one of the last adopters - FCC regulations prohibit -reach 1.17 million in 2005 Global Market -Asia leading and fastest growing -Europe follows, with France leading the market
