Definition and Purpose Discussion is a purposeful conversation. At best, discussion is informal, but it should be always serious. Students need sufficient background. Students practice thinking.

Roles in Discussion Role of the leader: Recall the group to the question at hand, summarize from time to time. Role of the teacher: Moderator, consultant, Resource person Role of the participants: Well listener, clear and precise speaker Recorder: Secretary, recorder of the important points, resolve conflicts

Conducting Discussions Preparing and starting for a Discussion Understand exactly what the point at issue is to be. Find a initiatory activity (demonstration, buzz sessions, pretest, quiz, provocative question) Encourage to discuss
