2. PEMDAS  Parenthesis (_)  Exponents b E  Multiply and Divide * and /  Go from left to right  Add and Subtract + and –  Go from left to right

3. Look for Separators  Since add and subtract is the last thing you do, we will use these as separators (not including + & - signs in parenthesis  Identify the separators, but don’t solve:  8 + 9 / 3  4(8-3)/5-2  2(4+1) - 2 3 + 6/2  5c+(a-b) 2 + 3c -8(y-3) – t(r+7)+7

4. PEMDAS Examples  Simplify: 4 + 3 (8-2) -12  10  Simplify: 2 3 +4(5-1)-3  21  Evaluate: 2x + (x-y) 3 when x = 9 & y = 7  26

5. Try It  4*(8-3) / 5 -2 2222  16 + 3 ( 6-1) 2 / 5  31  (a-b)2 + 5c when a=7, b=2, and c =4.  45  Should we do a few more?
