2
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc2 Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on customary Linear Units.
3
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc3 Unit A fixed amount that is used as a standard of measurement is defined as Unit. Example – the length of a box is 6 cm. The measurement of distance between two end points is defined as Length. Example – the length of the line segment is 3 cm.
4
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc4 Customary units of length Customary Units of length are Foot Inch Yard mile
5
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc5 Customary Units or Metric Units Most Countries use the metric system of measurement. Example – cm, m, km, kg, g, L The United States uses the Customary Units of measurement. Example – feet, inch, yard, mile
6
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc6 Relation in Customary Units of length 1 foot = 12 inch (in) 1 yard = 36 inch = 3 feet 1 mile = 1,760 yards = 5,280 feet
7
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc7 Finding length using customary units Line up one end of the object to the “0” mark of the ruler. Find the inch mark that is closest to the other end of the object.
8
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc8 The Length of the line segment is 3 inch.
9
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc9 Find the length of the line segment shown using inch ruler.
10
copyright@Ed2netLearning,Inc10 Conversion of units To convert larger unit to smaller, multiply with the conversion number. Example – 3 feet = 12 x 3 inch = 36 inch To convert smaller unit to larger, divide with the conversion number. Example – 48 inch = 48/12 = 4 feet
