10 استعاذة Istiaadha Verb Mandatory before recitation
Evidence Why? Is it read in Salah? When? Is the verb used when we say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم It is mandatory to say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم before starting recitation of the Quran Allah said: فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ (98) When you start to recite the Quran seek Allah’s protection from shaytaan the cursed devil An-Nahl:98 The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم used to recite it before his recitation after dua istiftaah (the opening dua before Al-Fatiha)

11 Virtues of استعاذة and when it should be said?
Anger Distraction in Salah Entering the bathroom The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم saw two people arguing and one of them became so angry his face became red and his veins were sticking out, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said I know of a statement if he said what is bothering him would leave him (ie. His anger) and then He صلى الله عليه و سلم said أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم When someone becomes distracted in salah he should blow dry spit to his left side three times and say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم A person should seek Allah’s protection against the male and female devils before entering the bathroom

12 Meaning of استعاذة أعوذ- means to stick to or cling to something
الشيطان can come from two meanings From شطن meaning someone or something that is far far away From شاط- the one who is destroyed or burned. الرجيم- comes from المرجوم literally the one who is stoned. , when referring to shaytaan it means the one who is far away from all forms of goodness When referring to shaytaan it is the one who is destroyed When referring to shaytaan it means the one who is stoned by the curse of Allah سبحانه و تعالى

13 استعاذة putting it all together
O Allah I seek your protection, refuge and shelter with you from the Shaytaan who is destroyed, cursed and destructive. Stranded person seeking refuge
