3 RELATIONSHIP: ROTC PROGRAMS & VTCC ROTC Programs (all three: Air Force, Army, Naval – including Marine Option) Federal, with active duty military Second Major Must be a member of the Corps to be in ROTC Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC) Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech A minor (Leadership Studies) A 24/7 Leader Development Program No military service required, ROTC is not mandatory for Corps members

U.S. Coast Guard Association Direct Commissioning Program with the U.S. Coast Guard (DCS) If selected, only 5 weeks of training after college to become a Coast Guard Officer

7 WHAT WILL YOUR RESUME SAY? Each year there are 1.7 million new college graduates How many will have your same major?! The economy is not adding jobs as rapidly (about 70% of jobs are unpublished!) Even if you retire from the military around 40-45, SSA says you’ll probably work until you’re 70 – another 25-30 years! Whether it’s right after college, or 20 years down the road, at some point, you’ll be interviewing with a civilian employer. What will your resume say?

12 BENEFITS OF APPLYING AS A CADET TO VT How do I apply to be a cadet? Check, “Yes” to the question in VT’s online application, “Do you wish to enroll in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets?” Apply for free as a cadet! Automatically considered for the Emerging Leaders Scholarship ($8K or $12K over 4 years)

13 EMERGING LEADER SCHOLARSHIP In order to become a recipient: Apply & be accepted into VT Apply for free! File the FAFSA no later than March 1 st No separate application – last two years all incoming cadets have been awarded the ELS
