What is UNITE to Face Addiction? A grassroots advocacy effort bringing people, communities and organizations together to face addiction and stand up for recovery on the National Mall in Washington, DC on October 4, 2015. Partnering with local, state and national participating organizations and many Federal and State Agencies. It is 100% privately funded from non-governmental sources. www.facingaddiction.org

Why October 4 th ? Why Now? A grassroots constituency that has developed over the last 15 years is organized and speaking out – addiction recovery, criminal justice reform, health equity, family members on overdose awareness A new era and interest in collaboration among organizations at the local, state and national levels To build on greater acceptance of treating alcohol and other drug problems as health issues Across the political spectrum, understanding that current rates of incarceration, including for alcohol and other drug related offenses, can’t be sustained A growing recognition of the impact of discrimination towards people with substance use disorders and the importance of dismantling legal and societal manifestations of discrimination. A sense of urgency over the current opiate overdose crisis It is time to UNITE to demand solutions to the addiction crisis.

Why Partnering Organizations are coming on board Exciting opportunity to increase their capacity and grow their membership Each Partnering organization has a personalized website to show others they are committed, publicly promote the rally and tally the number of people they are have mobilized to come to Washington, DC on October 4th To be a part of an historic moment To be a part of bringing together a new, strengthened coalition of allies and organizations who have not historically worked together to advance solutions to the addiction crisis.

Become UNITE to Face Addiction BUS CAPTAINS at www.facingaddiction.org.www.facingaddiction.org 1.Commit to come to DC on October 4 th 2.Help recruit and identify people in their communities to travel by bus 3.Make sure that everyone knows where and when to get on the bus 4.Makes sure everyone knows where the bus will be parked before it returns

Become UNITE to Face Addiction AMBASSADORS at www.facingaddiction.org.www.facingaddiction.org 1.Talk one-on-one with your friends and family members, asking them to join you in Washington, DC. 2.Commit to getting five of your friends and supporters to come to Washington, DC by bus, car or train. 3.Spread the word through social media and to begin conversations about why it’s important to come to Washington, DC on October 4 th in your community.
