Analysis of Student Work The following tasks should have been completed: teacher validates class schedule principal validates teacher's schedule platform selects 3 classes as targets for evidence gathering teacher identifies 1 objective for each targeted class (total of 3*) principal approves selected objectives * for the 2014-15 school year only - if the platform selects 2 courses with the same course number - the teacher may use the same objective for the duplicate courses The screencasts provide invaluable step-by-step information http://ncasw.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/Screencasts Content-specific PLTs are working on lesson ideas and evidence gathering to support the various objectives. These are posted in google drives and shared with each content area. If any of your ASW teachers (Arts/World Languages/Healthful Living) are having difficulty, please ask them to consult their PLTs and contact either Liz Droessler (egrimes-droessler@wcpss.net), Delynda Ramirez-Carter (dramirez- carter@wcpss.net), or Brian Glendenning (bglendenning@wcpss.net)

ASW – Keys to Success Keep it simple Gather evidence in the early stages of learning (you’re trying to show growth not proficiency) Pay close attention to the verb of the clarifying objective More info on how to write the context will be posted by DPI soon – check out their website for answers http://ncasw.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/home
5
ASW - Check the Resources PLTs have done a great job of sharing ideas regarding objective selection and evidence gathering – check their shared google drives for examples – participate in PLT meetings Check the Arts Ed Wiki for examples (including those posted by DPI) ASW on Arts Ed WikiASW on Arts Ed Wiki Contact Liz if you have questions or concerns
6
Remember … Reflective practice improves performance and each time we assess our work with young people we gain information that can guide instruction.
7
Remember … While the logistics are cumbersome right now – the opportunity to select your objectives and be able to demonstrate growth in your own content area is a benefit. Because we are participating this first year – we’ll have the opportunity to discover how best to address the challenges and your ‘score’ will be the best 2 out of 3 years (for districts that did not opt-in – they will not have that opportunity)
8
Remember I believe the Arts Educators in our school district foster growth among all their students on a daily basis. I have faith that you will be able to demonstrate that growth through the ASW process. Thank you for your patience, tenacity, and integrity!

Susan Roberts Scholarship The Susan Ellis Roberts Scholarship was established in 2003 to annually award a Wake County graduating senior who has demonstrated a special talent in the visual or performing arts, leadership, teaching, entrepreneurship or other creative gift. Susan Roberts wanted this scholarship to honor students who do not fit a mold or are often overlooked—students she considered to be “diamonds in the rough.” The dream and design of Susan Ellis Roberts is to find such creative and talented young people and to reward them for their talent, commitment, tenacity and creative vision.
