What is professional membership
CIPD membership recognises the impact that HR professionals are making in the workplace based on what they know, do and deliver. Our three professional levels (Associate member, Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow) set the standards for the HR profession and ensure competent practitioners operating at support, managerial and strategic leadership levels are fully recognised. They represent employers’ expectations of HR professionals in business today and in the future.

Three levels of professional
membership All three grades demonstrate that you have achieved a level of knowledge (usually through a qualification) and can apply this in the workplace. It’s worth mentioning that you do not have to work your way up through the levels; you can apply at the level that best reflects your achievements in the workplace Highlight that routes are open to a wide range of HR professionals ie generalists, L&D, other specialisms

Eligibility for Upgrading
Current grade of membership Grade can apply for Student You must complete your qualification before applying for a grade of membership Graduate or Associate (having previously held Graduate status) Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow Chartered Member Chartered Fellow Eligibility subject to meeting relevant membership criteria

Qualification completed Grade you can apply for CIPD Foundation Level Certificate or Diploma Associate Member CIPD Intermediate Level Certificate or Diploma CIPD Advanced Level Diploma Associate Member Chartered Member Chartered Fellow

How to move to professional membership
Students who have completed Foundation or Intermediate qualifications can upgrade to Associate member Graduates can move to Associate straight away without assessment or payment by calling CIPD on Members who are eligible and meet the criteria can upgrade to Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow

An interactive pdf application form asks about impact in the workplace and covers behaviours and activities in one document CV provides context of career Feedback from Line Manager and one Colleague focuses on how the candidate operates and their impact Org chart can also be submitted Non refundable fee assessment of; £40 for Associate £60 for Chartered Member £95 for Chartered Fellow

Upgrade methodologically- Telephone assessments
New route for upgrading Available for upgrade to Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow only 45 minute telephone assessment with one of trained upgrade assessors Need to submit CV and colleague support before assessment Guidance is sent to candidates to help them prepare Non refundable assessment fee of; £120 for Chartered Member £250 for Chartered Fellow

Top Tips for anyone wanting to Upgrade
Check you are ready to apply – and wait if necessary Use self diagnostic tool on MyHR Map Answer the questions fully Emphasise your contribution – ‘I’ instead of ‘we’ Choose colleagues who best know the impact you make in the workplace Make sure your experience is relevant and consistently demonstrated Use examples from within last 3 years My HR Map: a self assessment tool to assess your capabilities against the activities, knowledge and behaviours from the CIPD Profession Map and give you access to recommended development

Audience groups Segment 1 – Graduates 0-1 years (approx 4375) Junior position. Pathway to Associate Segment 2 Graduates 2-4 years (approx 4,509) Junior/mid-level positions. Pathway to Associate, some eligible for Chartered Member Segment 3 – Graduates 5-10 years (approx 4582) Managerial/senior positions. Most eligible for Chartered Member, some Chartered Fellow Segment 4 – Graduates 10+ years (approx 3754) Senior positions. Eligibility Chartered Member and Fellow The most effective/responsive audiences have been segment 1 and 2 50% of long servers have been in grade for 15 years or more (1745). 649 have been in grade for 20 years or more. In addition, tackle the following: Retirees: 100 Graduates are 65+ and 18 Graduates have indicated on their MQ that they are retired.

What marketing is taking place
Dedicated pages on the membership section of the CIPD website Advertising in People Management Targeted direct mail to Graduates Supporting messages through LinkedIn, Twitter, FB and Google+ Face to face upgrade events

Face to face events To support this extra special year we are proposing to run face to face assessments around the regions – 8 -10 events covering 11,467 Graduates which is 66% of Grad population. London – 3 events; 13th & 14th Dec, HRD and 13th & 14th June Scotland – 2 events; 29th Nov and Mar – Glasgow + other venue tbc Ireland – 2 events; dates tbc North West – 1 event; Nov (ACE) Midlands area – 1 event; May Northern area – 1 event; March

What the Branches can do
Promote upgrading to all levels of membership Suggest all Graduates move to the Associate level of membership if not ready to upgrade to Chartered levels Assist any members who wish to upgrade to Chartered by; Running membership clinics Using relevant literature from Amber & Green* Sense checking application forms Sense checking CV’s Highlighting relevant areas of the website
