2
~The Basics~ Science and Engineering Science – refers to knowledge of the natural world Engineering – uses scientific knowledge to develop technologies. *Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was*
3
Bioengineering Bioengineering – the application of engineering to living things such as plants and animals Examples – plants designed to resist diseases, animals, or drought, grains. Assistive Bioengineering – Assistive technologies are developed to help organisms without changing them Examples – wheel chair, crutches, canes. Adaptive Bioengineering – unlike assistive technologies, adaptive technologies actually changes the living organism Examples – surgery, artificial hearts.
