PowerSchool Registration Option 1-Students Register from Home Students will use their SPAN, to register from home. Contact Mrs. Bridges for SPAN help Open to Students Feb. 25th. Students will finalize from home and print out 2 copies: one to keep, one to turn in with folder to Mrs. Bridges. Option 2-Students Register from School Tracks 3 & 4 Students will register in the computer lab at school. March 6 th 101C Lab Please sign up with Mrs. Bridges-sheet in Student Services. Students will finalize at school, print out two copies, and bring one home to be signed by parent and returned with folder to Mrs. Bridges Kerri Bridges 2014

PowerSchool Registration 1-Students Register from Home Students will use their PowerSchool, to register from home. Contact Mr. Thomas for any help. Open to Students March 10. Students will finalize from home and print out 2 copies: one to keep, one to turn in to Mr. Thomas. Kerri Bridges 2014

Homebase log in!!!!!!! Students may register ONLY with their own log in NO parent log in will work Student log ins were given to the students Early in School Year. Have your student log in for you and show you grades and attendance other fun things. Kerri Bridges 2014

Course Recommendations Each high school informs us of the requirements for honors placement Typically students who have a high B/A average on assessments are recommended for Honors Review course recommendations **if you disagree with a teacher recommendation, speak directly with that teacher. 1. Future Ready Core– for 9 th graders entering in 2009-10 and Later who are excluded from EOC Proficiency Level requirements 2. Occupational- for only selected IEP students who are excluded from EOC Proficiency Level requirements Kerri Bridges 2014

Future Ready It is the Course of Study developed to provide a strong academic foundation so that students are prepared and have many options when they graduate from high school whether they go to college or to work. The main idea is that students graduate.... Future Ready Kerri Bridges 2014

What do classes look like in High School? Block Schedule Students take 4 courses/credits each semester. 1 course passed=1 credit Each course is 90 minutes An entire year’s worth of curriculum is compressed into one semester. Grades start accumulating from day one! No time to “catch up” later in the year!! Kerri Bridges 2014

Testing Requirements Three EOC tests must be passed- counts as 25% of grade 1. Common Core Math 1 2. Biology 3. English II In courses without an End- of Course test, the final exam shall count as 20% of the student’s final grade. Kerri Bridges 2014

NORTH CAROLINA ACADEMIC SCHOLARS RECOGNITION Students who complete the requirements for this academically challenging high school program are named North Carolina Academic Scholars and receive special recognition, such as a seal attached to their diplomas. Students must: Complete all the requirements of this North Carolina Academic Scholars Program. Have an overall four-year un-weighted grade point average of 3.500 Kerri Bridges 2014

English Graduation Requirements: Students are required to earn credits in four mandated high school English courses Eng. I, II, III, IV Students will take an English II EOC Students will take a final exam for Eng. I, III, and IV Kerri Bridges 2014

Social Studies-4 Credits 1. World History 2. Civics and Economics 3. American History 1: The Founding Principles 2: American History II Students will take a NC Final Exam at the end of these courses Kerri Bridges 2014

Science Biology (EOC Course) Physical- physical science, chemistry, or physics Earth/Environmental NC Final Exam for all other courses Three credits are required for graduation (one in each of the above areas) Kerri Bridges 2014

Math 4 credits in the following are required for Future Ready graduation : Common Core Math I or Common Core Math I A/B Common Core Math II Common Core Math III 4 th Math Course- aligned with post high school plans Kerri Bridges 2014

No longer required for graduation for rising 9 th graders but... Minimum of 2 credits of the same language ARE required for admission to UNC System of Colleges Competitive universities may require more than 2 credits of a foreign language Most local high schools require A averages in 8 th grade courses in order to take a foreign language in the 9 th grade. Healthful Living Students must pass Healthful Living I Recommended to be taken in the 9 th grade.*** Students may opt to take other PE courses as upperclassmen Kerri Bridges 2014

Career and Technical Education To graduate with a CTE concentration a student must take four credits within a cluster Agricultural and Construction Finance Human Services Information Technology Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Business Management and Administration Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communication Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Kerri Bridges 2014

A Word to the Wise Remember to balance your academic and social life. Get involved( check out clubs/ teams/organizations) Great way to make friends, helps you learn who you are, and use for college applications. Get to know your high school counselor.
