Elie Weisel Elizer “Elie” Weisel Born September 30, 1928 Sighet, Transylvania (in Romania) In 1944, sent to labor and death camps until freed in 1945 Studied at the Sorbonne in France 1948-51 Wrote Night and many other books

Became a peace activist Taught at Boston University, City University of New York, and Yale Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 Founded the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity with his wife, Marion Wiesel
