Primary succession Takes place on land where there are no living organisms

Secondary succession The sequence of changes that take place after an existing community is disrupted in some way Ex: forest fires, volcanoes, hurricanes, etc

6 Biomes Major geographic communities with similar climates and vegetation

7 Aquatic biomes Photic zone = the portion that is shallow enough for light to penetrate Ex: intertidal zones, estuaries, coral reefs

8 Aquatic biomes Aphotic zones = deeper waters that never receives sunlight Ex: the abyss
