I can identify six types of simple machines.
2
Whiteboard activity
3
I. What is a simple machine?
Is a machine that does work with only one movement. Six simple machines : incline plane, lever, wheel/axle, screw, wedge, pulley 5.53 minutes What new information did you learn from the video?
4
A compound machine is a combination of 2 or more simple machines working together to accomplish a task. Such as a Can opener Can you think of other examples of compound machines?
5
II. INCLINED PLANE Flat, sloped surface
Helps with work-allow less force to move an object from one height to another. Example of inclined plan- ramp Longer the inclined plane-the smaller the force needed to move an object.
6
A. Using inclined plan - A. Using inclined plan -
Lifting an object uses more force than exerting force along a ramp over a greater distance. Force = work/distance Mechanical advantage of an inclined plane = length of inclined plane divided by its height
7
B. Wedge an inclined plane that moves and can have 1 or 2 sides.
Mechanical advantage increases as it gets longer and thinner. 1.24 minutes How does the wedge change the input force?
8
Think Pair Share How does an incline plane help to make work easier?
Name some everyday uses for incline planes your group.

Exit Slip What type of simple macine is the tip of the dart in the photo below?
