Scaling the Digital Landscape Introduction Changing the Learning Landscape Programme – a sector wide programme strategically supporting the use of technology within learning and teaching. NTU looking at Digital Practice as a core competence Higher Education Academy offering small scale funding for projects to look at elements of this. Opportunity to combine SCALE-UP project with broader CLL project.

Scaling the Digital Landscape Embedding Learning Technologies Opportunity to employ second year students to be Digital Skills Mentors to work on SCALE- UP module and with library to help understand digital literacy needs of students Focus on digital skills of students needed for SCALE- UP flipped learning approach. Library keen to understand how support for digital literacy/practice could change in library.

Scaling the Digital Landscape NTU Library Objectives Enable students as drivers of innovative practice by using students as agents of change in the form of Digital Skills Mentors To develop staff student partnerships and engagement to co-develop an agenda for change To facilitate the development of innovative strategy to engage with learning technology and provide direct support for students developing their digital literacy skills Aim To develop library IT/digital support services

Scaling the Digital Landscape Some observations and suggestions from the mentorsmentors Add voiceovers to off-campus access videos Dedicated IT support from mentors useful Dropbox Turnitin Some students expected workshops to be delivered by staff instead of student mentors Create smaller NOW guide to fit in induction wallets Passwords / logging on to resources Some students prefer 1-2-1 peer support; others prefer staff expertise WiFi
