2 Journey into Successful SaaS Implementations
Beirut – 3rd Feb. 2015 Sarkis Kerkezian Director, SaaS Partner Delivery Transformation program Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

3 Program Agenda Key Challenges Critical Success Factors Q&A 1 2 3
All, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to share with you our experience with SaaS projects that CEP engaged into so far. In our agenda today, we will talk about the Business Pains that are contributing to change the way IT is implementing projects and maintaining their applications, then will have a quick comparison between SaaS vs. on Premise projects , talk about some key considerations to ensure the success of SaaS projects and finally talk briefly about CEP Engagement process into SaaS projects 3 Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

4 Journey to the Cloud Key Challenges

5 Your journey to the Cloud Key Challenges
Business Process flow Alignment Competitive Responsiveness: Time to Market Higher User Experience & Mobility Needs Available vs Build Integration with OnPremise / Legacy Applications Real time Reporting & BI Dashboards Investment & ROI (CAPEX vs OPEX) Faster, Reliable & Economical Technical Financial Functional

6 Critical Success Factors
Key Considerations

7 Five Critical Success Factors for SaaS Projects!
Why wouldn’t everyone want a rapid implementation – there are 5 issues to consider Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

8 Solution Driven – Adopt not Adapt
Time & Budget Solution Driven – Adopt not Adapt Implementation Methodology & Approach Stakeholders Readiness & Involvement Technology & Environment Mgmt. Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

9 1. Time & Budget Oracle Cloud
SaaS projects are with shorter project durations that is measured into weeks and for multi-pillars SaaS projects could reach few months. This will make it with lower budgets and tight schedules with high sensitivity to deviation. Obviously the case is different into SaaS projects On Premise … Longer implementation Duration …estimated in months and years! Normally with higher budget … less sensitivity to deviation Cloud … Shorter Project Duration … estimated in weeks Lower Budgets … more sensitive to deviation Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

10 Project implemented at 19% of the allocated budgets to expand their HCM implementation Footprint and went live in 6 weeks This is a Quote with Logo slide ideal for including a partner or product logo with a brief quotation and attribution. 11 2. Solution Driven – Adopt not Adapt
One of the key characteristics of SaaS projects is that it is Solution Driven ... At the moment we drive it differently, it will go into the trap of long complex projects and will never be able to achieve the benefits of lower total costs of ownership. Cloud … Solution Driven On Premise … Solution/Requirements Driven Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

12 Solution Driven Approach
BUSINESS OBJECTIVES Having said this, lets go into more details about SaaS projects considerations and how they can be rapid implementations. Starting with the last point solution driven implementation approach means the following Agree on business drivers Focus on fulfilling the objectives rather than focusing on fulfilling the requirements Don’t ever talk about requirements with user and rather talk about the objective and understand the scope So specify objectives, set the priority, align with SaaS process, identify the gaps, influence the business decisions to adopt the new SaaS process APPLICATION AND PROCESS ALIGNMENT BUSINESS OBJECTIVES FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE BLUEPRINT & TRANSITION PLAN FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE BLUEPRINT & TRANSITION PLAN Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

13 Adopt NOT Adapt SaaS paradigm is: to adopt and not to adapt
Saas approach is no customizations but configurations and personalizations Saas approach is stick to the product with reach functionality Hence, solution driven approach comes with Influencing Users to Adopt the system offered practices and not letting the system to Adapt the users requirements. So this will require business decision makers to be involved into those projects One of the current SaaS projects we are supporting now opened that door and ended up with requirements and all extracted out of legacy way of doing things. We need to close that door completely with the end users Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

14 Followed this approach project went live in 40 days

15 3. Implementation Methodology & Approach
Considering the special nature of Cloud projects in terms of project shorter durations and knowing that the bulk of activities are configuration and not customization activities, Oracle came with special implementation methodology under the name of Oracle Unified Methods Cloud … OUM for Cloud implementation Methodology On Premise … OUM Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

16 3. Implementation Methodology & Approach
Supports fast, agile implementation of all Oracle Cloud applications such as ... Executive Sponsorship is a key success factor to make timely decisions related to adopting best practices and facilitating change management activities Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

17 Benefits of Oracle’s Cloud Method
OUM Cloud Application Services Implementation Approach Objectives

18 Iterative and Incremental Optimization
Doorway to Success…Building on an initial set of essential functionality over multiple releases Incremental, Multi-Release Implementation Incremental Release Additional Modules, etc. Ongoing Solution Refinements Incremental Release Initial Deployment As one of the key benefits to SaaS is to achieve faster time to value, then, iterative approach is essential to ensure this success. SaaS applications should be implemented into releases to ensure addressing the top priority pains to the business, next releases should focus on lower priority and nice to have components Additional Functionality + reports New Release functionality Additional Setups Bus. Rule Config. Integrations Data Loads Localizations Standard Advantages of Incremental Approach Benefit from early access to essential functionality Incorporate complementary functions over time Continuous refinement increases ROI

19 Entire Fusion HCM stack was initially planned for Big bang Approach – They went live in 4 Releases: - Core HR - Talent/Performace mgmt - Payroll /integration with EBS GL - Compensation Executive Sponsorship is a key success factor to make timely decisions related to adopting best practices and facilitating change management activities Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

20 4. Stakeholders Readiness & Involvement
Cloud … Requires higher business involvement / Change Management efforts On Premise … Business Involvement is still needed, but with less empowerment requirements Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

21 People - Customer Commitment
Executive sponsorship and frequent Steering Committees is a must to facilitate decision making Empowered Business Users should be engaged into the project IT primary role is to facilitate and participate into alignment and reducing the gaps & manage revised ITSM practices and SLAs Full time Project management both from partner and customer Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

22 Went live with recruitment solution for 3 countries in 10 weeks
Went live with recruitment solution for 3 countries in 10 weeks. Primary success factor was the Executive sponsorship to the project Executive Sponsorship is a key success factor to make timely decisions related to adopting best practices and facilitating change management activities Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

23 5. Technology & Environment mgmt.
Cloud … High involvement from Oracle Less IT operations and Maintenance activities and costs On Premise … Less involvement from Oracle More reliability on internal and partner resources to maintain the environments Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted

24 Technology – More Oracle Involvement
SaaS: Oracle works to provide a complete delivery of the SaaS platform (HW, SW and Apps). Oracle is responsible: for upgrades, patching, to monitor HW and SW and System Admin. In technology, Oracle is taking the ownership of the system patching/upgrade and maintenance. This is a huge off load for the partners from the headache / Customer IT they used to take in sizing/ installing/securing and maintaining the applications . Hence, Partner/IT can invest more time into developing core business and soft skills competencies to expedite the implementation
