PRACTICAL Practice for your internal

INFORMATION We are testing the reaction rate of Magnesium in various concentrations of Hydrochloric Acid. -What could your aim be? Write one down. **Remember, it can be an hypothesis “I think that….”, a question, or a general aim statement.

VARIABLES What do you think your independent variable will be? Write it down How will you change this variable? Is there a range of measurements for this variable?

VARIABLES What do you think your dependent variable will be? Write it down. How will you measure this variable?

CONTROLLED VARIABLES What are 3 variables you will control? How will you control each of these variables to ensure you have a fair test?

RELIABLE RESULTS How will you show your results are reliable? ** You will do each test 3 times and then average your results. You have the handout to write on – HOWEVER. For your internal, you will have to remember the table layout.

EQUIPMENT List your equipment needed **We are using Mg ribbon that needs to be cut to 5mm**

METHOD Write a clear, concise method. ** It should be numbered so someone could easily follow your instructions.

DO THE PRACTICAL Write up your results once you have obtained them. Graph your results. ** Are there any random results? Are there results you didn’t expect? (This is all written in your conclusion.

INTERPRETATION OF DATA Summarise what results you found. Conclusion – relate this to your aim. Did it prove what you set out to find? Did you change anything throughout your tests to ensure accuracy? Evaluation – Did you change anything while collecting data? -Were there limitations to it being 100% fair test? -Were there possible sources of error? -Was there anything you could have done differently to make it better? -Can you relate your findings to the collision theory ?
