3. Strategies to enhance the Pulses production in Rabi Pulses Chickpea, Field-pea & Lentil:  Enhance the seed availability and seed replacement of Chickpea with new improved varieties (HC-1 for rain fed / timely & late-sown conditions; HC-3 & HC-5 (for irrigated conditions); HK-2 (Kabuli, medium bold) and Field-pea with new improved varieties (Uttara, Hariyal and HFP-529) and Lentil with new improved varieties (HM-1, Sapna and Garima) for irrigated conditions through a ‘Mission Mode Approach’.  Farmer supportive chickpea import policy should be formulated.  Minimum Support Price should be fixed minimum at import price and ensure procurement at harvest.  Ensure availability of all inputs in time. Promote IPM Module for insects, pest management. Encourage Integrated Weed Management. This is more important in Lentil because it is a poor competitor of weeds.  Make available the required fertilizer i.e. Single Super Phosphate and Urea at sowing time. Provide Seed treatment inputs i.e. Rhizobium and Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria at the sowing time.  Popularize cheap input: spray of 2% urea at the initiation of pod development in rain-fed crop of chickpea.

4. Strategies to enhance the Oilseeds production in Rabi Rape Seed-Mustard :  Timely sowing: Sowing should be done between 10 th to 30 th October.  Use good quality and certified seed with optimum seed rate and treated with recommended fungicides.  Use optimum dose of fertilizer, maintain proper spacing between rows and plants.  Do proper thinning followed by Hoeing after 20 to 25 days sowing and apply first irrigation after 40 to 45 days of sowing.  Adopt integrated management of insect-pest and diseases by using recommended insecticides.

5. Suggestions to enhance the production of Rabi Oilseeds and Pulses  Rainwater of September / October must be conserved and used as pre- sowing irrigation and better germination as well as for life saving irrigation or supplemental irrigations.  Use of certified seed and seed replacement rate should be increased.  In addition to recommended fertilizers, Sulphur(S) and other Micro Nutrients like Zn should also be applied to increase the yield and quality.  Recommended IPM and IWM technologies be followed.
