3 The New Mexico PreK Observational Assessment Tools includes 7 domains which are designed to align to state and national standards for early childhood: Physical Development, Health and Well Being – coordination, hygiene, safety Literacy – listening, language, reading and writing Numeracy and Spatial Relationships – counting, shapes, sorting and measurement Aesthetic/Creativity – art, music and movement Scientific/Conceptual Understanding - investigation of the physical and natural worlds Self, Family & Community – appropriate behavior, social skills and being a part of a group Approaches to Learning -– independence, problem-solving, thinking and perseverance

12 Family Role In Assessment Supporting the family members in gaining confidence in their ability to observe their child and share those observations with special education staff. Gain confidence in their ability to observe their child and share those observations with special education staff. Contribute to IEP Team discussions about their child’s strengths and accomplishments and the development of appropriate goals.
