LAW ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT - 1998 – newly approved - 2001 – amended - 2012, May 17 – revised law approved /About 80 percent of the provisions have been revised and amended. Compared to the previous version, which consisted of 4 parts and 13 articles, the current revision has 5 parts and 20 articles./

The purpose of the law is to regulate the following relations delineated in Article 16 of the Constitution of Mongolia: - To guarantee the citizens of Mongolia the privilege to enjoy the right to healthy and safe environment, and to be protected against environmental pollution and ecological imbalance; - To prevent ecological imbalance due to human activities; - To exploit natural resources with minimal negative impact on the environment; - To assess the environmental impact of regional or sector- wide policies, proposed development programmes, plans and projects, and to make recommendations and decisions re: their implementation; - To coordinate stakeholders.
