Programs in the Office of Virtual Education eLearningSC – Offers online professional development courses to licensed educators statewide. This program serves nearly 3,000 licensed educators per year and offers courses for the online teaching endorsement. VirtualSC – Offers supplemental online courses for high school credit for students in grades 7-12. In 2013-14 school year – the program had 22,107 enrollments statewide.

What is VirtualSC? Supplemental program that offers courses for high school credit to SC students in grades 7-12. Public, private, homeschooled, and adult education. Free-of-charge. Not a school; does not issue credit or diplomas. No limit to the number of courses per student. First-come, first-served with priority enrollment for students closest to graduation (12 th, 11 th, 10 th, etc.)

Resources Offered to Schools Below are some of the new resources available to schools: Test Preperation – AP Test Prep, ACT Prep, and PSAT/SAT Exam Prep – free of charge to all SC students. Elementary Keyboarding – Intended to help students in grades 2-6 learn the basics of keyboarding. Not intended to be a course, but a resource for schools and students. Free of charge for all schools/districts in SC.

Options for Using VirtualSC Option 1 – Individual Student Enrollment Option 2 --Virtual Learning Lab Why? Course not available at your school. Unable to find a licensed teacher. Emergency situations. What? Standards-aligned course taught by a Highly Qualified educator licensed by the SCDE. Synchronous instruction provided via a Double Robot as needed Where and When? In a computer lab at your school. During the regular school day.

Options Continued Option 4 – Middle School Assistance What? Supplementary online learning for middle level ELA and math. When? Available beginning October 2014. Used during the school year or for summer school. Who? 6-8 grade students. Benefits? Promotes student achievement. Prepares students for the next grade level. Provides online progress tracking. Cost? Free!
