Chapter 4: Beyond Words Lam Loc
2
Who is Lam Loc? A Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technician
Discusses how engineering drawing is important.
3
Key Words Engineering drawing Oblique drawing Perspective drawing
Isometric drawing Orthographic projections Scale drawing Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
4
What’s the purpose of engineering drawing?
To sell the drawing to customer. To compete with artists. To communicate the details. To have fun.
5
What do oblique and isometric drawings have in common?
Both drawings are nice and neat. Both drawings are important to engineers. Both drawings represent three-dimensional objects. Both drawings are drawn to scale.
6
Perspective drawing... Represent objects in three-dimensional space.
Uses one or more vanishing points toward which all horizontal lines on the drawing converge. Is a style in which all vertical lines are drawn vertically but all horizontal lines are drawn at 30 to the horizontal. Is a two-dimensional projections of all sides of a design.
7
Which drawings are important to engineers? Why?
Isometric and Orthographic Because they are drawn to scale.
8
How does the design process at HNTB differ from the one that Shawn and Jamy used?
Shawn and Jamy did not create proposals for client They did not have to get client approval before prototyping their designs.
