3. The Sahara Desert is the largest tropical climatic desert in the world, covering most of northern Africa. The Sahara is rich in metallic minerals such as iron, copper, manganese, tin, nickel, chromium, zinc, lead, cobalt, silver, gold, platinum, thorium, and uranium.

5. Major oil and gas reserves and very large underground reserves of water have also been found. It is just about impossible to reach the areas where all these natural resources are, and this slows down the process of getting them

7. The daily summer temperatures average to about 90 degrees fairenheight. Parts of the desert have a daytime temperature higher than 110 degrees. Now that’s HOT!! The daily temperature in the Sahara averages from 50 to 60 degrees fairenheight. It is extremely hot during the day and cool at night. The average rainfall is about 4 inches. In large areas they receive less than 1 inch a year.

8. Years and years ago the Sahara used to have a much wetter climate. Can you believe that after I told you how hot it is. The Sahara even had many lakes and streams. About 1,000 B.C. people came and lived by fishing.

10. People live at the feet of 600 ft. sandunes. Saguenay River is an important source of water. Sandunes are called ergs. Flat gravel plains called regs. Rocky desert uplands called hamdas. Sand covers about 10 percent. Desert is a 600 meter plateau. The Sahara extends more than 3,500 miles of northern Africa.
