How Canada became an independent Nation
Canada was originally a colony of Great Britain in 1763 Great Britain had won control of Canada in the French and Indian War After this, the colony expanded in population and size.

Canada was divided into Upper and Lower Canada “Upper Canada” was the English Section know as Ontario. “Lower Canada” was the French Section known as Quebec now

By the mid-1860s, Canada wanted to be united into one country.

The “British North America Act of 1867” put together Upper and lower Canada into one nation. The New constitution called the new separate territory called the “Dominion of Canada.”

In the Dominion of Canada, Canada was allowed to have it’s own parliament and Prime Minister. However, they were not allowed to make treaties with other countries, They had to use the British military. The Monarch would also be the same as the British monarch (King or Queen).

The dominion of Canada worked well until WWI (1914 – 1918) Because Canada lost a lot of men in WWI they wanted to split from Great Britain and have an independent nation.

After the war was over, Canadians began working for their independence from Great Britain. In 1931 the British started to give them their independence It was completed in 1982 They still share the same Monarch
