SCLT Receives Top National Volunteering Honour June 2 nd saw the annual announcement of organisations that have been selected as recipients of the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS), the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a group of volunteers in the UK. The QAVS is considered the equivalent of an MBE for an individual. A trophy and certificate signed by HM The Queen will be presented to the SCLT by the Lord Lieutenant of Bristol later in the summer. Ash Jones is a trustee of the SCLT Charity, he said, ”We feel greatly honoured that the SCLT Charity has been chosen to receive this distinguished honour. I know I speak for all the volunteers and supporters of the SCLT, when I say how grateful we all feel for this recognition and what a huge boost to our morale and aspirations it has been. We know we have come a long way as a group of volunteers in the last 6-years, but senior safety still has a long way to go, and the QAVS will greatly assist in our goals for the future” SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit Supper Club in Weston-super-Mare - Monday 8th June 2015 saw SCLT volunteer Roger Ibrahim visiting the monthly gathering of the Blue Link Supper Club at the Kingswood Hotel in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. The members of the Blue LInk Supper Club meet every month to enjoy a fine dining experience at the noted culinary establishment and also to enjoy lively conversation and to entertain guest speakers from a variety of disciplines. Following his presentation Roger commented, “This evening's presentation was a pleasant opportunity to share a nice meal with this thriving group and to share with them, the growing menace of senior crime throughout the country. I hope the presentation on deception crimes against the elderly has assisted the members of the club in planning for the occasion in their own lives, when that moment of risk may occur" SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit the Bridge Business Club - Wednesday 27th May 2015 has seen SCLT volunteer Roger Buxton visiting the regular social meeting of the Bridge Business Club in Cadbury Country Club in North Somerset. The Bridge Business Club (BBC for short) is a social dining club for members who have an interest in the world of business. The members of the BBC group meets regularly to enjoy a luncheon, lively conversation and to enjoy guest speakers on various subjects. Following his presentation Roger commented, “I would like to thank the BBC group for inviting the SCLT along to today's meeting, for me a most enjoyable lunch and having such an engaged and interested audience was a delight. I hope that the safety presentation has answered some questions about home and personal safety, that will help keep people secure in later life"

SCLT Participate in 2015 Charity Walk for Peace Sunday 31st May 2015 saw SCLT volunteers Ash Jones and Jon Williams joining the thousands of other participants in the 2015 Charity Walk for Peace which is an annual event organised by the Ahmadiyyan Muslim Community in Morden, Surrey. The very popular event attracts walkers from all around the country and takes place over a 6-mile route in the London borough of Merton. Jon Williams is a trustee of the SCLT charity and volunteers on the Public Presentation Team in South Wales, he commented, "This has been my second year as a participant in the Walk for Peace and it is a fantastic experience to join with so many like-minded people in the charity walk for good causes. The Ahmadi community are such great hosts and organise a really great event, which helps so many deserving charities around the world" SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit Kewstoke Women's Institute - Thursday 14th May 2015 has seen SCLT volunteer Ash Jones visiting the monthly luncheon meeting of the Kewstoke Women's Institute (WI) at the well-appointed Village Hall in Kewstoke, Sand Bay. - The Women's Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalize rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. The Kewstoke group, which has more than 30 members, meets regularly to enjoy a hearty meal, lively conversation and to participate in monthly club competitions, such as flower arranging and short story writing. Following his presentation Ash commented, “The WI, like many older adult groups, makes great strides towards reducing loneliness and isolation amongst the elder community. It is very nice to see members of such groups enjoying each others company, when they meet to dine together and to take part in the many activities which the club engage in" SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit Longwell Green Probus Club - Wednesday 27th May 2015 has seen SCLT volunteer Roger Ibrahim visiting the regular social meeting of the Barnes Court Probus Club in Longwell Green Community Centre in Bristol. Probus clubs were first formed, as an acronym for Pro(fessional) and Bus(iness), in the early 1920's in Saskatchewan, Canada, and in New Haven, Connecticut, U.S.A. The Barnes Court Probus group meets regularly to enjoy light refreshments, lively conversation and to enjoy guest speakers on various subjects. Following his presentation Roger commented, “There were over 40 members at today's presentation, with many of the attendees contributing their own examples of scams and cons that they have encountered to the lively debate. My presentation should help the club understand more about the type of deceptions that they may encounter and help make them safer into the future"
