Dual enrollment in conjunction with Either NoVa Community College or Richard Bland Community College

We will partner with either Northern Virginia Community College or Richard Bland Community College (in Williamsburg) The class will be taught by Mr. Celio at Briar Woods during regular class time Each semester will earn 3 college credits Grades as well as credits will transfer There will be a fee, depending on which community college we partner with

The course itself will be a survey of Africa from pre- history through the present We will study the continent through a variety of lenses, including: Geography Economics Socio-cultural developments Politics (which will account for the majority of the course) A full syllabus and schedule are available on the site

There is no “external” assessment (e.g. AP-style exam, SoL test) for this course There will be unit tests and final exams for each semester There will also be written papers appropriate for an introductory college level class (e.g. responsive writings and a research paper) The workload will be roughly comparable to an AP course (roughly 1 hour of homework per class)
